George’s charity legacy lives on
George Michael’s favourite charitable causes have received donations from the singer – two years after his death.
The NSPCC’s Childline were sent an unexpected boost from the pop star’s estate.
A Los Angeles AIDS charity also told how gifts that stopped af ter the singer’s death on Christmas Day 2016 had suddenly started again.
An NSPCC source said: “Out of the blue, George has come to the rescue and made a considerable donation to Childline. It is most unexpected but hugely appreciated.”
George had made annual donations to LA- based Project Angel Food since 1993 – the year his partner Anselmo Feleppa, 36, died of AIDS.
The charity’s Richard Ayoub said: “We got £20,000 a year wired to us from George and when he passed away, that was put on pause.
“Then in November, I got an email saying they wanted to send a donation. George keeps coming to the rescue – it’s really pretty magical.”
Many stories about the star’s secret generosity emerged after his death, at 53, from a heart condition.
He gave a Deal or No Deal contestant thousands for IVF treatment and handed £25,000 to a woman in a cafe after hearing her in tears over her debts.
George also donated the royalties from his 1996 No1 single Jesus to a Child to Childline.
