SUPERMARKE­T IN ROW OVER BOOZE COST

Supermarke­t Su giants Aldi have ha been accused of using us minimum pricing laws law to hike the cost of festive fes gin by almost 50 per cent cen in Scottish stores.

Customers Cu were shocked when the 12 GGins of Christmas selection pack scanned scan at £ 51.72 when the cost online and south of the Border was £ 34.99.

S t a f f b l amed minimum pricing laws despite the box containing just under 24 units of alcohol and carrying a minimum legal cost of £11.48.

Shopper Scott Young said : “It doesn’t take Einstein to work out that this is gross overchargi­ng on Aldi’s part.

“But when I complained at first, they refused to listen to reason or back down.

“I wonder how many others have paid through the nose for this?

“And whatever happened to the spirit of Christmas?”

The minimum pricing law, which sets a minimum 50p per unit of alcohol, was implemente­d by the Scottish Government in May.

Neil Coltart, group manager for Trading Standards at Glasgow City Council, said: “It’s clear the retailer has made a mistake here.”

An Aldi spokespers­on said: “Due to a checkout error, the price for this product was temporaril­y incorrect at our stores in Scotland.

“We have apologised to Mr Young and have provided a full refund.”
