Late licence and tasty grub.. the perfect place to meat and greet

-

Standing tall on one of St Andrews’ busiest streets, The Vic has been a favourite with locals, students and tourists for more than half a century.

Having the latest licence in town, the second-floor pub and night club is where everyone congregates at the end of the night for last orders.

With a spacious alpinethemed bar and restaurant on one side of the balcony and a huge lounge with comfy chairs and a selection of board games on the other, it caters for all ages and moods.

A quick scan of the lunch menu had me licking my lips in anticipation at the thought of one of their giant hot dogs, burgers or Philly cheese steak sandwiches – proper, substantial student grub. Then my eyes lit on their aptly named “Man Plank” – a sharing

platter of burgers, hot dogs, ribs, garlic bread, wings, fries, nachos and slaw – a feast guaranteed to leave you “planked out on the floor”.

After being told the supersize feast fed six, and not wanting to look like a complete piggy, I opted for poutine – thick cut chips, topped with gravy and cheese curds. Still naughty but oh so nice, especially with a side order of pulled pork. With a vast array of Scots gins, whiskies, draft and cask ales on offer, it’s no wonder The Vic is also popular with the American golfers looking to experience the true taste of Scotland.

I would love to say the staff were as welcoming as the atmosphere but, sadly, not all of them were. The girl who served us was cheery enough but one of the other waitresses avoided us at all costs.

A slightly grumpy waitress did not spoil our overall eating and dining experience and I will definitely pop in again in the future, if only to give the Man Plank a go with some of my friends.
