Former Falkirk striker Mark Beck is heartbroken to see his former side spiral into the relegation zone.

Beck joined the Bairns on loan from Carlisle in 2014, helping them to a play- off run that was ended by eventual winners Hamilton.

He believed the club was destined for the Premiership so he’s shocked to see them battling the drop under Ray McKinnon.

Beck, who now plays for Harrogate Town, said: “It’s sad to see, I don’t really know what’s going on up there.

“It was a great set- up when I was there and everything seemed right.

“The club was buzzing when I was there and I felt they had a great chance.

“It’s sad looking on now seeing what’s going on. I couldn’t believe it. We nearly went up and now they are in a relegation battle.”

Beck was reminded of the Bairns when bumped into old team-mate Will Vaulks during Harrogate’s festive bash in Dublin.

He said: “We went there for the Christmas party and I saw Will Vaulks. It was actually in the toilet, I just turned around and he was standing there!

“We both had a chat about Falkirk and they loved Will up there. We had a great squad at the time with him, Craig Sibbald and Rory Loy, who I got on well with.”

Beck ’ s new club are mixing it with Salford City, who are part- owned by Manchester United’s Class of 92.

Salford captured former Aberdeen star Adam Rooney during the summer while Beck’s minnows only turned full-time last year as they earned promotion to the fifth-tier of English football.

Yet the two clubs are neckand- neck in the race for promotion to the EFL.

Beck had dropped out of full-time football after his release from Yeovil Town and said: “We did view ourselves coming into the season as underdogs.

“We’ve surpassed all expectations. We’re right in the mix so we don’t it as David and Goliath any more.

“With the likes of Salford City and Leyton Orient, we felt that at the start.”
