Steven Mackay praised Brora Rangers’ grit to stay in the title race – but blasted himself for not making life easier for them.

Early goals from Gavin Mor r ison and Mar t in MacLean were enough to see off Fraserburgh in the battle between the second and third placed sides.

But player-boss Mackay was annoyed he blew chances to make it a far more comfortable win.

He said: “We knew it would be a tough challenge against Fraserburgh, but I thought we battled really well and was delighted to go in 2- 0 up at half-time.

“We had chances in the second half – and I missed two myself. I would have expected to score but, overall, it was a good days work.”

Fraserburgh boss Mark Cowie admitted Brora deserved the points and tipped them to push champs Cove Rangers all the way.

He said: “We were well beaten. Their workrate was bet ter and they showed their class.

“A lot of people are tipping Cove to win the league – but there is not much between the teams.”

Mi t ch Me g g i n s on’s hat- trick ensured Cove stayed six points clear with a 3- 0 win at Buckie Thistle.

Formartine United kept up their brilliant run as they beat Inverurie Locos 4-2, with an Archie MacPhee double and goals from Aaron Norris and Garry Wood. Daniel Crisp gave Locos the lead and Chris Angus scored their second.

Grant Noble, Michael Dunn and Sam Robertson struck as Deveronvale stormed back after Marc MacGregor’s f irst- hal f double for Wick Academy.
