Berwick exodus coming

-

Johnny Harvey branded Berwick a shambles as he vowed to wield the axe in the January window.

The Wee Rangers were crushed 4-0 by an Annan side who hadn’t won any of their eight previous matches.

Two strikes from Steven Swinglehurst started and finished the rout, added to by goals from Owen Moxon and Aidan Smith.

Boss Harvey said: “Mentally we weren’t strong enough. When you give your players simple instructions and they can’t follow them through, you’ve got problems.

“The goals we lost were unacceptable and the body language was also unacceptable.

“The key fundamentals of the game just weren’t right. That team is not a true reflection of me.

“Give me a transfer window and that team will be transformed from the shambles I’ve watched.”

Peterhead kept up the pace at the top with a convincing 4-1 defeat of Stirling Albion.

Jack Leitch scored first for the Blue Toon in the 14th minute, rifling a volley from just inside the box.

Rory McAllister then netted from a tight angle after rounding the keeper in 28 minutes.

Two Jamie Stevenson corners in eight secondhalf minutes ended Stirling’s chances of coming back into it.

Derek Lyle looped a 55th minute header into the opposite corner before Cammy Eadie nodded home in the 63rd minute.

Ronan Hughes scored a consolation with two minutes remaining but this was a first defeat in six for Kevin Rutkiewicz’s team.

Edinburgh City ensured they will finish 2018 at the top of League Two with a 2-0 win at Cowdenbeath.

An own goal coming from Cowden’s Jason Talbot started the game nicely for City before Blair Henderson scored his 25th of the campaign.

Talbot was then shown a straight red for an alleged stamp on Robbie McIntyre, ending the game as a contest and giving James McDonaugh’s side all three points.

Elgin thrashed Queens Park 4-0 at Hampden as the Borough Briggs side continued their push for promotion to League One.

Shane Sutherland hit two goals for Elgin with Brian Cameron and Greg Morrison also adding to the rout.

Clyde brushed aside Albion Rovers 3-0 at Cliftonhill through goals from David Goodwillie, John Rankin and substitute Ally Love.
