MI6 Net closing in on White Widow
Br i t i s h securi t y services have made a breakthrough in the hunt for the world’s most wanted woman.
Spies searching for Samantha Lewthwaite, dubbed the White Widow, have received intelligence that she is hiding out in Yemen.
It’s believed the mum of four is being protected by Al-Shabaab fighters in the war-torn country.
An MI6 officer in Nairobi, Kenya, recently recruited a source with close links to Lewthwaite, leading to information about her whereabouts.
Security services were warned she and her cohorts are plotting a string of terror attacks, including in London.
A well-placed source said: “We have been told she has a vast range of contacts in Aden and Mukalla.
“Yemen is a hotbed for Al- Shabaab recruitment and the country’s chaotic political situation gives an advantage to on- the- run terrorists like Lewthwaite.
“She remains our No1 target and we believe the net is now finally closing in.”
Lewthwaite, 35, from Buckinghamshire, was married to 7/ 7 suicide bomber Germaine Lindsay.
She went on the run seven years ago and is suspected of ordering the deaths of more than 400 people.
Authorities linked her to the 2013 Westgate Mal l attack in Nairobi, which left 71 dead, and believe she masterminded the slaughter of 148 people at a university in Garissa, northern Kenya, in 2015.
