Bro again and close in on Cove

HIGHLAND LEAGUE

-

Brora player- boss Steven MacKay has urged his players to keep on doing the business to turn the heat up on leaders Cove.

The Sutherland side stay six points behind the defending champions after a hard-earned 2- 0 victory at much-improved Rothes.

A goal in each half did the business, Mark Nicolson netting in the first half and Martin MacLean grabbing a fine clincher late on.

MacKay said: “Every game is a critical one for us at the moment.

“It was a pretty even match in the first half. We said to the boys at half-time just to manage the game and be professional.”

Rothes manager Steven MacDonald said: “We competed well in the first half and we were well in it. It was a bad time to lose a goal. It deflated us a bit.

“But no doubt Brora were the better side. They came out in the second half and steamrolled us for 10 to 15 minutes.”

Cove made it 18 wins from 19 after seeing off Huntly 3-0 at home. Jordon Brown’s double was superbly-taken, while league top scorer Mitch Megginson wrapped up victory with his 34th of the campaign.

Second-top Fraserburgh were rampant at home to a woeful Lossiemouth, racking up a 10- 0 triumph.

Scott Barbour hit four goals, Sean Butcher three, while Aidan Combe also claimed a brace and Liam Norris chipped in another.

Graeme Rodger netted the only Formartine goal in a narrow victory at Wick.
