Late and great for Berwick

-

Berwick staged a stunning late comeback to take a point off leaders Edinburgh City in a 2-2 draw at Shielfield.

The capital club led through Conrad Balatoni and Blair Henderson strikes but an 89th-minute goal from Lewis Barr and injury-time effort from sub John Neill gave Berwick an unlikely share of the spoils.

Delighted boss Johnny Harvey said: “After the last two results we needed to prove ourselves and the players showed what they are capable of.

“We battled to the end and got our reward. I knew if we could pull one back we could get a second. The players deserve the credit.”

City broke the deadlock in 31 minutes when Balatoni turned the ball into the net from a corner.

Former Rangers kid Henderson added a second in 54 minutes with a cool finish after a knock down in the box.

Berwick rarely looked a threat but in 89 minutes they pulled one back when Andrew Forbes crossed from the right and Barr met the ball at the back post.

Then, four minutes into added time, Neill netted with the last kick of the game, turning in a cross from Ousman See – back for the first time since breaking his leg in April.

Edinburgh gaffer James McDonaugh said: “There was a lapse in concentration at the end and it cost us two points.”

Clyde made it eight games unbeaten as they saw off Queen’s Park 2-0.

David Goodwillie left keeper Jordan Hart on his backside before teeing up Jack Boyle for the opener.

And the former Dundee United and Blackburn striker then nodded home Barry Cuddihy’s cross in 40 minutes to seal it.

David Wilson rescued Annan from a shock defeat to Albion Rovers as he struck late in a 1-1 draw.

The visitors looked set to clinch only their second win of the season through Scott Forrester’s strike nine minutes from time.

But Wilson thumped in a 20-yard volley five minutes later to snatch a point.

Stirling Albion huffed and puffed to a 2-1 win over 10-man Cowdenbeath.

Jordan Allan gave Beath the lead in nine minutes but Albion levelled in 36 minutes when Robbie Deas fouled Peter MacDonald in the box.

The on-loan Celt saw red and Dylan Mackin tucked in a penalty before Dominic Docherty added Binos’ second before the break.

Peterhead eased to a 3-0 victory over Elgin, who had Darryl McHardy sent off. Jack Leitch hit a double either side of Ryan Dow’s effort.
