2018 is year of the lion

- Anthony Haggerty

Livingston boss Gary Holt watched his Lions go down fighting to Aberdeen as they ended a miraculous year with a 2-1 loss.

It is only the second time this season that Livi have lost in the Premiership at home since their return to the top flight.

A James Wilson strike and own goal by Stevie Lawson condemned the West Lothian side despite Ryan Hardie’s late strike.

Holt admits that he was still proud of his men for going toe-to-toe with the big boys.

2018 has been a special year for Livi with Rangers, Celtic, Hibs and Hearts all dropping points at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

The former Falkirk boss said: “We didn’t want 2018 to end as it has been a great year for the club. We did not want the year to end with a defeat but Aberdeen are a good side.

“Every loss hurts but I felt we went toe-to-toe with them. Was it a quality game? No.

“All three goals were scrappy, poor, and maybe we need to be a bit more streetwise in certain areas of the pitch.

“To take a booking, take a foul. I don’t think there was much in the game.”

Meanwhile, Holt insists he wants the same attitude and desire from his team after the three week winter break.

Holt will now take his charges on a camp in Portugal but insists his initial objective of 10th or higher hasn’t changed.

He said: “I just want the same again for the second half of the season.

“The same work rate, the same desire, same hunger to improve every day.

“We want us to pick up enough points to guarantee 10th! As soon as we do that we can look at where we can get to.”
