Lenny: We ran out of derby luck

-

Neil Lennon insisted luck deserted Hibs as they suffered only their second home defeat of 2018.

He insisted he knew it wasn’t going to be their night when Steven Whittaker’s howizer squirmed along the goal line.

But the Hibs boss has pledged to invest in his squad in January in a bid to add quality he admits they lack in the final third.

Lennon said: “I thought Steven’s shot was going in – it was the width of some greasepaint, really.

“I did think a goal was coming. When Steven hit the post, you think ‘ that’s in’. And when it didn’t find the net I thought, ‘Bloody hell, it might not be our night after all’.

“We need that bit of craft. We were putting the ball into the box with hope rather than expectation.

“We were unlucky. It didn’t go for us tonight. They scored a great goal, a great strike and then we bombarded them second half.

“I’m not unhappy with the way we played. We just lacked quality at times in the final third, which has been a problem over the first half of the season. We lacked creativity.

“Our final ball could be better. It will be something we will look at in January.”

The Engl ishman’s thunderous first-half strike secured a rare victory at Easter Road but he was far from surprised after having visions of glory.

Lee’s fifth goal of the campaign claimed the bragging rights for the maroon half of the city and he insisted it was one of the finest moments of his career.

The 27-year-old said: “That was my greatest strike for Hearts. I really enjoyed it and it was a great moment.

“It’s a goal which has been coming as I was due one and it makes it all the more pleasing it was against Hibs.

“I was dreaming about it yesterday so it was nice for my dream to come true. I always try to think ahead about what’s going to happen and thankfully it happened for me tonight.

“I scored in my dream but it wasn’t quite as good as that. As long as it hits the net I’m happy. For my celebration,
