Probe is launched into fatal bus crash

An investigat­ion has been launched into a bus crash which killed the driver and injured nine passengers.

The accident happened after the Stagecoach bus hit a bridge and landed on its side.

Three people who were badly injured in the collision were seriously ill in hospital last night.

The 50- year- old male driver died in the crash, which happene d at Lit tlemi l l Bridge near Munlochy village, on the Black Isle in Easter Ross, before 6pm on Friday.

Ambulance crews rushed the wounded to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Six passengers were later discharged after being treated for shock and minor injuries.

Sergeant Al a n Henderson called for anyone who saw the bus before the crash or who has relevant dashcam footage to get in touch.

He added: “Our thoughts at this time are with those involved and their families.”

Stagecoach paid tribute to the driver.

A spokesman said: “He was a popular member of staff at our Inverness depot and had been with the company for around 12 years.

“We’re providing support to his fami ly and work colleagues.”

Another Stagecoach driver who was passing the scene alerted the emergency services.

He stopped his own coach and went to the aid of the stricken vehicle.
