Food gi­ants Heinz are cel­e­brat­ing their 150th birth­day, 100 years after their founder’s death.

Henr y Heinz , f rom Pitts­burgh, Penn­syl­va­nia, started mak­ing and sell­ing horse­rad­ish sauce, us­ing his mother’s recipe, in 1869.

Seven years later, Heinz Tomato Ketchup was launched in the US and it ar­rived in the UK in 1886.

Heinz had five chil­dren with his Ul­ster Scots wife and died in 1919, aged 74.
