You can bank on support

-

I took out a loan to finance an extension at my house. But the building firm went bust halfway through and didn’t complete the work. I’m left paying back finance for five years with little to show for it. Is there anything I can do? Yes, as the finance is connected directly to the purchase, the loan firm are liable. So if the builders appointed administrators, the bank must instruct other contractors to finish the job. This protection exists under s75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 but doesn’t apply to personal loans.
