A Laura love in open air

-

Laura Muir thanked her fan club for roaring her to victory at yesterday’s Great Stirling Cross Country – even if it was a stroll in the park.

The Scot made it four wins on the trot at the event by leading the Brits to a 4x1.5km relay win by nine seconds.

It couldn’t stop Team Europe landing the overall prize while Muir and Co pipped the USA to second.

But Muir, who will jet out to South Africa today to get ready for March’s European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, admitted she couldn’t ease off with so much support on hand.

She said: “I take it in more than I would on the track because the crowd is so close and shouting loudly. About my school, about home, from Glasgow.

“That’s nice of them. It’s nice to have little kids running alongside you and I do take it in more.

“But I would feel a bit of a numpty if I lost it doing something. I don’t celebrate until I pass the finishing line.”

Meanwhile, fellow Scot Eilish McColgan chalked up a personal best of 31 minutes 51 seconds to win the Ooredoo Doha 10k. India have suspended opening batsman KL Rahul and all-rounder Hardik Pandya after controversial comments made on TV.

Rahul and Pandya, both of whom have featured in all formats in recent months, have been widely criticised for remarks that were widely construed to be sexist. Darryl Wood warned his Glasgow Rocks not to let their BBL Cup semifinal cushion leave them feeling comfortable.

His side hold an 85-77 aggregate lead heading into today’s second leg with Manchester Giants.

Coach Wood said: “It’s not a big enough lead for it to matter too much until the last two minutes. We need to be aware of it but not letting it be our focus is something we’ll talk about.” Two-time winner Scott Waites beat Germany’s Michael Unterbuchner 6-1 as the English darts star raced into today’s BDO World Championship Final.
