FOOD PRODUCERS MAKE BREXIT PLEA
Farmers and food and drink industry leaders have demanded that politicians avoid a no-deal Brexit.
In an open letter, chief executives from seven bodies representing the sectors say it would cost £2billion in lost sales a year.
MPs will vote on Prime Minister Theresa May’s proposal to avoid a no-deal Brexit on Tuesday.
Those who have signed the letter include Scott Walker, of farmers’ body NFU Scotland, James Withers, of Scotland Food & Drink, and Julie Hesketh-Laird, of the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation.
The letter states: “The EU accounts for 70 per cent of Scottish food exports annually and it is also the source of crucial inputs and supplies for our sector. There is no tolerance for no deal. It must be rejected.”
