Summit wrong with City flops

-

James McDonaugh admitted his Edinburgh City flops got what they deserved as they were knocked off top for the first time since October.

Blair Henderson fired City ahead from the spot but they were dismal in the second half.

David Wilson levelled then Henderson went from hero to zero as he scored an own goal.

Peterhead have now replaced City at the summit and McDonaugh said: “We deserved nothing – simple as that.

“We were alright in the first half and maybe shaded it but we didn’t start the second half well and that continued.

“Annan were the better team. We barely touched the ball in the second half and it’s 1-1. To be fair from

their point of view it’s a brilliant hit. We reacted to their second but not in the right way.”

City went ahead after five minutes when Peter Watson tripped Scott Shepherd and Henderson fired home the penalty.

But within two minutes of the restart, Annan levelled. Chris Johnston’s corner was headed out only as far as Wilson who fired in a lovely volley.

Peter Murphy’s men then grabbed the winner with 20 minutes left.

Henderson got caught under another Johnston delivery and headed into his own net, despite City claiming the ball hadn’t crossed the line.
