Jobs lost as Games centre collapses
A £3.5million community centre opened as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games legacy has collapsed with the loss of 23 jobs.
The Legacy Hub in Glasgow’s Dalmarnock area attracted financial support from the Lottery Fund and the Scottish Government, which wanted the community to benefit from the sporting event.
I t wa s opened by Sir Kenny Dalglish four years ago and sits in the shadow of the Emirates Arena.
But i t w ent i nt o administration on Friday after running into financial difficulty.
The project has been run by charity The People’s Development Trust.
I t ha s prov i d ed a ch i l d r en’s nu r s e r y, education facilities, café, GP surgery, pharmacy and dentist at the community base.
Glasgow City Council officials were called in to reassure parents after they were told the nursery will not open tomorrow.
Alternative places will be offered at other nurseries nearby.
Account ant s f rom KPMG were appointed administrators.
All but two of the Trust’s employees have now been made redundant.
Blair Nimmo, joint administrator and KPMG’s UK head of restructuring, said: “We will work with key stakeholders, particularly the local community, to determine the future of the Legacy Hub.”
