Worker Horror of body parts and dead animals

-

A whistleblower has lifted the lid on the horrifying conditions at HES – where waste including body parts and a dead crocodile have been stockpiled.

The source, who worked at the firm’s plant in Shotts, told the Sunday Mail: “I’ve been in this industry for the best part of 20 years and I can say without doubt that the conditions I witnessed at HES were the worst I’ve seen anywhere. The clinical waste was piled up higher than a house. It was on pallets and wrapped in black plastic.

“It was disgusting – there were body parts and all the NHS stuff but also animals from Edinburgh Zoo and waste from uni labs. There was a dead crocodile, monkeys and other animals.

“They came to Shotts and would go into freezers but they never worked properly. There was blood dripping out the bottom and the stench was overpowering. “Rats and foxes would get into the clinical waste outside. “The plant put some types of waste through an industrial shredder and heated it to 900 degrees to kill bacteria before sending it to landfill. But it wasn’t a proper incinerator, which you need for high-grade medical material – limbs, body parts.

“Pettigrew was paying to get stuff incinerated in Wales but they bumped up the price.

“I haven’t been paid since November 20. I’m owed £1400 but there’s very little chance I’ll ever see it.”
