With warm welcome and whisky galore, city pub is dram good.. or even très bon

-

There are few pubs that can boast a gantry of hundreds of malts and real ales.

But the award-winning Bon Accord (and they have picked up many accolades over the years) is not just a place for whisky buffs or ale lovers.

From the moment you leave behind the noise of the nearby motorway and step inside, this is a warm, inviting bar where everyone is made welcome.

The hardcore regulars are happy to share the mahogany bar with first-time visitors and tourists. In fact, it all adds to the experience.

Pub Spy has been to Bon Accord many times but this was the first time in a while, a visit to remember a late friend who loved the place.

And it more than lived up to its reputation. The friendly staff pointed us in the direction of a snug table and handed out menus. At first glance, this looks like your typical pub food, from fish and chips to burgers. But everything is homemade and great value.

We had the giant Yorkshire filled with chicken and buttery mashed potato and covered in gravy. It was hot, tasty and full of flavour, as was the Bon Accord’s famous macaroni cheese – the perfect mix of al dente pasta and rich creamy sauce.

Of course, there is no escaping the vast choice of Scotland’s finest blended malts, bourbons and other whiskies from around the world at the bar. Only matched by the huge choice of real ales, international bottled beers and lager on tap.

If all you want is a glass of wine or a pint of lager, that’s fine. But when you fancy trying a whisky or a new ale, the staff come into their own. And boy, do they know their stuff. Expect to be asked lots of questions and let them find you the perfect drink. They are happy to arrange tastings for groups.

Bon Accord means good will, good fellowship and good agreement. This pub continues to live up to its name.
