Injury crime Shrews fury at late leveller amid fans’ fight

-

On-loan Ibrox star Greg Docherty helped put Shrewsburyonthebrink of a Cup shock only for injury time controversy to rob them of a scalp.

Docherty and Luke Waterfall had the League One side in control until Raul Jimenez gave Wolves a lifeline.

And Matt Doherty then struck in added time as the

Premier League side sneaked a fourth-round replay.

But town boss Sam Ricketts was furious with the officials for adding on six minutes after ball boys were moved from a corner as rival fans clashed.

He said: “I’m not sure where six minutes came from. I don’t think either physio went on. It was an awful long time and we couldn’t hang on in the end.

“I was told the ball boys disappeared. They didn’t. Admittedly they weren’t in the corner but I wouldn’t leave them there with 100 police and fans fighting.”

Shrewsbury – 54 places below Wolves in the football pyramid – impressed and deserved their 2-0 lead. Rangers midfielder Docherty fired in a fierce angled drive at the start of the second half and Waterfall headed home in 71 minutes.

Jimenez converted Adama Traore’s cross soon after then Doherty nodded in the leveller three minutes into added time.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo said: “The effort of the boys at the end was amazing. It showed our character.”
