Few goals and we’ll be Crawf mark

- Morton.................. 0 Dunfermline ........ 0 Colin Paterson

The Jags are finally building some momentum having gone unbeaten in January and moved above Falkirk in the table.

After Joe Cardle put them ahead and Scott Mercer put one into his own net, there was a nervous last 10 minutes when Stephen Dobbie netted a penalty.

But Caldwell always knew his side would get over the line. He Stevie Crawford last night backed shot-shy Pars to hit the goal trail and keep their top-four dream alive.

Dunfermline drew a blank for the sixth time in eight games and new head coach Crawford admits making his side more of a threat going forward is his priority.

He said: “We worked on attacking play during the week and we will continue to do that. The boys can’t said: “I think the game was much more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.

“It’s the first time we have gone through a calendar month unbeaten since January 2017.

“It doesn’t matter that Falkirk and Alloa dropped points. It’s all about what we do.

“We spoke about that this week and set little targets. The boys were outstanding in terms of commitment and the uglier be faulted for lack of effort. We just have to keep getting into the right positions and hopefully goals will come.

“We’ve got to be looking for fourth place and it’s frustrating but having played up front myself, I know that you can go through these spells. But to come down here with a bit of pressure on us, we’re very happy with the clean sheet.”

On-loan Rangers pair Robby McCrorie and Andrew Dallas were handed debuts by Ton boss Jonatan Johansson.

And McCrorie was called into action in just 15 minutes when he did well to hold a Callum Smith header.

James Craigen then drove an effort just wide towards the end of the first half as Pars looked to turn dominance into goals. But neither side would make the breakthrough during a hard-fought second stanza that was high on endeavour but low on quality and chances.

Johansson said: “I was really pleased with how solid we looked.

“Some of our play was quite good but I would like to have created more chances.”
