We’re still playing at Belgian fortress. And nothing else matters
Scotland rivals’ stadium deal with Metallica
Scotland’s Euro 2020 opponents Belgium have already scored a tournament victory – thanks to US rock stars Metallica.
The band have agreed to let Roberto Martinez’s side play their match against the Tartan Army in Brussels in June despite a venue clash. The Belgium national team – nicknamed The Red Devils – have not lost a competitive game in the Good golly, it’s Dolly...or it appeared to be at first glance.
In fact, it was Katy Perry dolled-up in tribute to Dolly Parton, who won the Musi-Cares Person of the Year award.
The megastar sang Here You Come Again wearing a lilac ensemble with cowboy hat and stiletto boots.
Other artists paying tribute to the 73-year-old star included Dolly’s goddaughter Miley Cyrus, Willie Nelson, Don Henley and Pink. city’s King Baudouin Stadium for more than 10 years.
But they started to look for other venues for the June 11 match as Metallica , who have had hits with Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman, play there on June 16.
Metallica usually demand a week leading up to any gig in their WorldWired Tour.
They have now agreed to a deal in which workers will toil through the night to get the 50,000-capacity venue ready.
A source said: “There was some uncertainty but the Belgian FA told the band they would do whatever was necessary to use the stadium.
“The venue has become a fortress for the Belgians.”
Jim Bell, chairman of the East of Scotland Tartan Army, said: “Scotland will have to bring their A game if we are to get a result there.
“I’m looking forward to it but I’m not a rock fan so I won’t be staying on for the gig.”
