Look into my Si’s? I’ll never get Cowell to stop smoking

Hypnotist can’t get pal to quit fags

Paul McKenna has told how hypnotism doesn’t work on his ciggie-loving pal Simon Cowell.

X Factor boss Cowell, 59, has tried hypnotherapy more than once but failed hands-down.

And McKenna believes that the music mogul doesn’t really want to quit.

Paul, 55, said: “Simon will do what he wants to do and I haven’t given him any hypnotherapy to stop.

“My take on smoking is, if someone wants to smoke then it’s a lifestyle choice – the last thing I want to do is lecture people on these things.

“Simon hasn’t asked for my help to quit, I think he’s quite happy as he is.”

McKenna and Cowell have been friends for years.

Cowel l was best man at McKenna’s wedding and the pair often holiday together in the Caribbean.

They used to enjoy late nights in some of London’s most exclusive clubs but McKenna says they have grown out of partying.

He said: “Simon and I don’t go out any more, we prefer to stay in and play board games. We love Twister or Balderdash.

“We sit and tell each other anecdotes about the most embarrassing moments of our lives, then fall about laughing.”

McKenna revealed he loves to have his celeb pals round for dinner.

He added: “I don’t really go to nightclubs any more as I’ve become old.

“About three years ago, Simon and I were in a club VIP section drinking champagne and the music was so loud all I could think was, ‘I can’t wait for this bloody place to close.’

“All I wanted was a glass of red wine and a conversation.

“Back in the day, Annabel’s would have been a nightly stop for me. I’ve not even been since it had a revamp. We love to have dinner parties and I’ll talk to anyone about anything.

“Only the other night I went to a dinner party and Robbie Williams was sat opposite me – we talked about flying saucers.”

Seeing Cowell find love with par tner Lauren Silverman and become a father inspired McKenna, 53, to finally settle down.

He married long- term personal assistant Kate Davey, who he has known for 20 years – after using a spreadsheet to f ind his soulmate.

McKenna said: “I worked out the pros and cons of the women I liked and it spiked with Kate. She is so wonderful.

“Simon was over the moon when I told him I was settling down. He knows how much being with Lauren and becoming a dad has changed his life for the better.”

McKenna has ruled out starting his own family and

giving Eric, four, a play pal. He said: “I would have liked to have kids but my wife consciously decided she didn’t want to.

“We have a dog, a Great Dane. That is our little child.”

While life coach McKenna has helped thousands improve themselves, he admits he is still “a work in progress”.

He said: “Last year, six of my friends died – some young, some old. That was hard. But I’m definitely in a much better place than I’ve been in a long time.”
