Sturgeon We are still in business

The First Minister has told North American investors that despite B r exi t looming , Scotland is still “open for business”.

Nicola Sturgeon has been p romot ing S c o t t i sh business links with North America during her tour of the continent.

She v i sited Morgan Stanley’s Fusion Centre in New York to discuss joint projects with the f irm’s centre of excel lence in Scotland. The company employs 1550 people here.

Sturgeon also addressed a Scotland Is Now investor lunch, hosted by IBM, where about 50 business people heard about Scotland’s strengths and assets as an investment location and trading partner.

In Washington DC, she met Arne Sorenson, CEO of Marriott Internatio­nal, to discuss its fur ther e x pa ns i o n o f h o t e l operations in Scotland and addressed the Global Women’s Innovat ion Network, which wi l l be visiting here later this year.

She told business leaders: “North America is one of Scotland’s most important trading partners around the world, with the US alone being our most valuable export market with an estimated £ 5.5billion of exports in 2017.

“With Brexit continuing to pose the biggest threat to our economy, it is vital we do all we can to promote Scotland as a great place to establish yourself and invest in, and show we remain very much open for business.”
