Wadd a way to perk up

-

Ray McKinnon had to ban himself from the dressing room to stop his Bairns from catching an infection.

But they found the perfect antidote as they climbed off the foot of the table and up to eighth with a vital win thanks to a first senior goal from Mark Waddington.

The Bairns boss has conjunctivitis and had to do al l his talking through assistant Darren Taylor.

Taylor said: “Ray has had an infection all week and has had to keep his distance because whi le it’s not serious, it’s contagious. It’s a big technical area at Alloa so he was able to stand away from everyone else.

“We spoke before the game, during the game and at half- time so it really wasn’t an issue.

“He gave his team talk at the training ground on Friday – from a distance.

“It maybe wasn’t the greatest at times and not pretty but it’s a huge win.

“That ’ s f ive games unbeaten now so it keeps the momentum going.

“It’s the first time we’ve been in eighth so it’s a small step but it’s also one in the right direction.”

Jordan McGhee gave Falkirk the lead in 20 minutes against the run of play when he headed home Zak Rudden’s cross.

Alloa deservedly levelled in 30 minutes when bright spark Dario Zanatta burst down the left and found Connor Shields who fired home from close range.

But they lost a poor goal less than a minute into the second half although it was a great moment for Stoke loanee Waddington.

Ev e r yone m i s s e d Deimantas Petravicius’ low cross and the 22-year- old had a tap-in at the back post.

Alloa boss Jim Goodwin said: We’re gifting teams goals and it’s completely out of character.

“Like last week we lost a really poor goal two minutes into the second half and it was a catalogue of errors.

“We need t o pick ourselves up and go again. We’ve another massive game next week against Partick Thistle.”
