IT LOOKS OL OVER

-

Brendan Rodgers fears he has NO CHANCE of keeping Oliver Burke at Celtic next season – but believes Timo Weah will still be in Paradise. Red-hot Burke has scored three goals in his first six games since joining on loan from West Brom last month and confessed he’d love to stay in Glasgow. Hoops boss Rodgers reckons the most expensive Scot ever will be miles out of Celtic’s reach financially if he does his job and sends the Baggies back the player they thought they’d signed for £15million from RB Leipzig 18 months ago. However, Rodgers ( left) is confident that PSG ace Weah will be back in the Hoops af ter the summer, although he admits it is

likely the USA star will only return to to Parkhead on loan again.

Asked if making Burke’s desire to put down roots in Glasgow was pie in the sky, Rodgers sighed: “I think so.

“It would be great for Celtic but the reality is that the improvements he will make here will probably excite West Brom and, if they get promoted, then his wages change anyway.

“It may well be too much but all you can do is improve and develop him and see what happens.

“You are getting in a big talent and he helps us for now and we help them.”

Rodgers has seen Burke make huge strides in his development in his first month in Scottish football.

He said: “There are things he can do better. In this short period of time, I can see a lot of the changes in his game without taking away what he is good at, which is running and working and pressing. He’s good technically.

“I’ve been delighted with him. It’s a great challenge for us to help him develop and we get the benefit. ”

Burke has already started more games in a month for Celtic than he did in a season and a half with West Brom, and a year in the Bundesliga after his £13m move to Leipzig.

Rodgers added: “He’s shown he’s a learner. A good boy, hungry to improve but just needs a clear way of working.”

Weah has also impressed his new gaffer since joining on loan in January, and Rodgers is more confident of working with him over a longer period.

He said: “He’s 18, so there’s maybe a possibility of extending that.

“I’m sure PSG will take him back next pre-season for another look and then decide where his next stage is, so let’s see how it goes.”
