- Davis insists win today for Gers would sow doubt over title in Celtic’s mind

a 3-1 victory. Current stars Al lan McGregor and Kyle Lafferty also took part and the midfielder believes the trio’s experience of getting points at Parkhead could be vital.

Despite being 10 points behind Celtic in the Premiership table, Davis is determined to cut the gap and give Neil Lennon’s men a title scare.

He said: “Our last win there was nine years ago – it has been too long so it would be a good time to end that run.

“It’s up to us to get rid of that record. We have to perform and get a result.

“You need to go with a game plan and be well organised if you hope to win at Celtic Park.

“I wasn’t here for the first derby of the season but we probably sat off them too much.

“In the home game we got in their faces and stopped them playing. That was key to winning the game at Ibrox.

“It’s about getting the balance right away from home.

“But we have a decent mixture now of people who have played in the fixture, experienced it and know what to Steven Gerrard has had two 1-0 results in derbies so far. Oliver Ntcham was Celtic’s home hero in September but Ryan Jack won it at Ibrox in December for Gers. expect. I’m not sure that will strengthen my case to be involved from the start – that’s up to the manager – but I’m desperate to play.

“We need to try to put a seed of doubt in Celtic’s minds by winning the game.

“They have a healthy cushion in the league and it’s going to be difficult for us to claw that back.

“I’m not going to sit here and say we can win the title if we get three points.

“We just have to do our job and make them doubt themselves a bit.

“As big as the gap is right now, you just never know what might happen in football.”

Davis arrived at Rangers in January intent on winning silverware but it hasn’t materialised after Gerrard’s side slipped back in the title race and exited the Scottish Cup.

He’s on loan until the end of the season with question marks surrounding his future. But the 34-year-old is adamant that – despite not producing the kind of performances he was renowned for in his first stint at the club – he DOES want to be part of the club next term. He said: “I’ve enjoyed being back but I’ve been frustrated about not making the impact I’d have liked. “Hopefully after three 90-minute games in the last eight days, it will take me a step closer to where I want to be.

“In many ways it has felt like I’ve never been away from the club.

“We’ve already spoken and we’ll see what happens between now and the end of the campaign.

“I would like to be here next season.

“I came to win trophies and that’s obviously now going to be difficult this term.

“But I still want to help bring the good times back to Rangers.”
