We do know this is a new relationsh­ip which should be in its first flush of romance. They’ve only been together for about nine months and already the police have been called to an altercatio­n. There are reports of several blazing rows – at a time when it should be all hearts and flowers and soppy PDAs.

If the normal course of political relationsh­ips was being followed, Johnson would be rushing Symonds up the aisle in order to present himself as a committed, dependable guy who represents security in both his private and public life.
