In June last year, MacIntyre delivered a training course for the ICPS in Luanda, Angola, on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism.

In December, he spent a week in Kuala Lumpur, staying at the Grand Millennium Hotel.

Hope works in the human resources department at Edinburgh Academy.

They moved into Amy’s flat in June last year before moving out in March, leaving behind a pile of unpaid bills, including a demand from sheriff officers for £1863.31 in council tax, a statement from utility firm SSE for £ 768.62 for electricity and £ 601.17 for gas.

It has also been claimed that they left another property in the city in 2018 owing £9900 in unpaid rent.

Aberdeen University law graduate Amy, who has a skincare f irm, is attempting to get the money through the First- tier Tribunal for Scotland, which was set up by the Government to settle disputes between landlords and tenants.

The couple rented Amy’s home through Ben Property, who she claims provided her with references.

Amy added: “This has been a very stressful experience. The mortgage still has to be paid, despite the tenants failing to come up with the rent.

“I need to do all I can to get the money. How could I be given a reference on this couple when they already owed rent?”

Jamie Kerr, a director at Ben Property, said: “Professional, comprehensive checks took place. In this case, Ben Property had to take action via the First-tier Tribunal to recover possession of our client’s property and obtain a payment enforcement order so our client can chase the rental owed.”

MacIntryre said he struggled to pay the rent while caring for his sick parents before they passed away. He also claimed the ICPS owed him money.

He added: “I’m very sorry. It’s my intention to clear this debt when I can.”
