I designed Stormzy’s stab vest
Graffiti artist Banksy has revealed he designed the Union Jack stab vest worn by Stormzy during his headline slot at Glastonbury.
In a post on Instagram, , Banksy shared a photo of the 25-year-old grime artist wearing the black and white painted vest.
He wrote: “I made a customised stab-proof vest and thought – who could possibly wear this? ? Stormzy at Glastonbury.” ”
On Friday, Stormzy became the first black British solo artist to headline the festival in its 49-year history.
The Croydon-born star described his slot on the Pyramid Stage as “the greatest night of my entire life”. He is the second-youngest solo act to headline, after David Bowie in 1971 at 24.
During his show, Stormzy performed a duet with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and highlighted how ballet shoes are now being made to match black skin tones.
Adele showered him with praise after his gig. She wrote on Instagram: “Stormzy monumentally headlined Glastonbury in his own right with one album!!
“The first Grime artist ever to do so, you respected everyone that opened the door for you whilst opening a huge one yourself.”
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said the set will “go down in our country’s cultural history”.
Ed Sheeran said Stormzy – real name Michael Omari – was “an inspiration to many”.
Writing on his Instagram story, Canadian rapper Drake said: “@Stormzy headlining Glastonbury and that. Madness congrats.”
Stormzy’s girlfriend, TV presenter Maya Jama, tweeted: “ICONICCCCCCCC.”
