FEARS FOR KAYAK DAD LOST AT SEA
Engineer hasn’t been seen in a week
A holidaymaker has not been seen in over a week amid fears he drifted out to sea in his kayak.
Kenny McPherson’s family admit they are worried he got into difficulty caused by strong currents and have launched social media appeals for information on the 62-year-old.
He left his home in Aberdeen last month to spend time at his property in Torrevieja on Spain’s Costa Blanca but vanished last Saturday morning.
His wife Alexandra Mitchell and stepchildren Anna, 22, and Alexander, 27, have flown out to help in the search for the offshore survey engineer.
Anna said his car – a Spainr-egistered blue Skoda Fabia – was left at Torrevieja Marina.
She added: “We’re very concerned. We’ve discounted this being a voluntary disappearance. There’s no reason he’d have wanted to go missing. “When we got flights over and arrived at the house, we found everything had been left just as if he had popped out to the shops. My mum said he had kayaked when they had been abroad with a tutor but on this occasion he’d wanted to do a bit by himself.
“He purchased a kayak in Spain and had been out on the Friday before he went missing.
“We were unaware he was going to go out on the Saturday again. Neighbours saw him leave with the distinctive lime-green kayak early in the morning.”
Anna said the family have been told that Kenny wanted to go fishing in his kayak. It is feared he travelled out further than normal and may have hit bad weather conditions.
The family have handed out “Missing” posters in an effort to get more information. Anna added: “The police have organised land, sea and air searches but there’s been nothing so far.
“Some people said they had seen a similar kayak to the one my stepdad went out in bobbing around in the marina two days ago but it’s not been seen since.”
Alexandra said: “The police are working very hard but, as of yet, we have very little to go by. We just want Kenny home safe.”
The search is being led by the local Civil Guard force. Officers could not be reached for comment.
