He can hit top 4 like me

- Gordon Waddell

John Hughes made Hibs a top-four team a decade ago and is convinced Jack Ross can match him.

The new Easter Road boss has four wins, four losses and a draw from his first nine games.

Hughes, who signed Ross for Falkirk and made him captain, reckons he has the raw materials to make the difference if he makes some adjustments.

Ex-Hibs boss Yogi said: “It has been inconsistent so far but Jack is very conscientious in the way he goes about his business.

“Sunderland got rid of him too early. They should have given him a chance.

“It was a fantastic appointment for Hibs but he needs to get his own team in and it might take him two or three windows.

“With what he has they should certainly be top six.

“For a while Hibs were punching well below what they are capable of.

“He just needs to work out how to get the best out of what he has there.

“How to get the best out of Flo Kamberi, find out if he actually wants to be there or not.

“He seems to have recognised how to get the best out of Christian Doidge already and I’d pay money to watch Scott Allan every week. I’m also a big Stevie Mallan fan.

“Hibs can get into the top six and then Jack needs to look higher.

“I have always seen Hibs as a top-four club, getting into Europe and getting runs in the cups.

“I think Jack will do that and if he is bringing in the kind of players I am assuming he wi l l , l istening to bits of conversations, I can see that happening.”

John Hughes was speaking at a William Hill media event. William Hill are proud sponsors of the Scottish Cup.
