I don’t want son to inherit

-

I have a wayward son who has not been in touch for 12 years. I am seriously ill and do not want him to inherit anything when I die. Must I leave a will and, if so, how should it be worded so he gets nothing? You cannot disinherit children in Scotland. It is best to write a will but, even if you leave him out, he still has legal rights which he can claim. But as these are rights to moveables – i.e. money, cars, shares and jewellery – you can have the bare minimum so he inherits a share of a very small pot.

He’d been an E.ON customer for 10 years and always paid for his power up front.

But he was alerted to a problem when his meter started guzzling cash.

David, who is married to Fiona, 52, said: “I told E.ON I was a payas-you-go customer so couldn’t possibly owe any money.”

But E. ON insisted the storage heaters had not been connected to the meter.

David, a dad to Craig, 20, and 24-year-old Calum, said: “I was astounded. Turns out we have a complex four reading meter.

“But we’ve had the same set- up since we moved in 20 years ago and never had a problem, it seems, until we switched supplier to E.ON.

“E.ON told me to check my online account. I had no idea I even had one. There was no reason for me to ever check it.

“But when I finally logged in, it made for grim reading.”

E.ON told him not to worry, it
