Mondeo hybrid estate is ace for space.. and moving house

-

little graphic on the instrument cluster that shimmies l ike a hula hooper whenever this happens.

It is mated to a 2.0-litre petrol engine with six-speed automatic transmission, which combined will deliver 187PS and give you just over 46.3mpg. With a 62- litre petrol tank on board, by my reckoning, that will give you a range of 630 miles so no need for anxiety even though you are driving an alternatively fuelled vehicle.

I was also interested to note that as well as the normal Park, Reverse, Neutral and Drive options on the gearstick, there was a further one – L. This is for Low, so yyou can get going in extreme weather condconditions by using the reverse tractraction from the electric motor but, cleverly, it also increases the regeregeneration effect so that you can harvharvest more electricity.

TThe Mondeo will cruise silently and carefully in town using only elecelectric power but get on to the open roadroa and the petrol motor kicks in to getg you on your way.

I am always pleased by the kind of technology Ford trickle down intoint their production cars – the

Quickclear windscreen, for example, which is just amazing – and this hybrid is yet another example of a system that is both practical and intelligent.

The hybrid estate comes in two trim levels – the Vignale and the Titanium Edition.

That means auto lights and wipers, leather seats and steering wheel, a tonneau cover to keep items in the boot hidden, as well as cruise control, parking sensors, lane keep assist and traffic sign recognition.

There’s DAB and sat nav and it also has Ford’s excellent SYNC 3, which gives you access through your phone to a myriad of features that will make your life easier while on the road, such as voice-activated text messaging, music and emergency assistance.

Download the FordPass App and not only will it select points of interest on your route but it will even search for fuel stations and compare prices.

It wil l not, however, unload the cardboard boxes contained within it to the skip. That, I discovered, is one of the joys of being a mother – I got to do that on my own in the pouring rain. Here’s to the next house move.
