We must put stop on Sam

-

Ryan Flynn is full of respect for Aberdeen as a team.

But he knows that if St Mirren are to have any hope of beating the Dons in Paisley today, they’ll have to stop 21-goal striker Sam Cosgrove.

The Buddies midfielder is ful l of conf idence af ter two impressive performances against Derek McInnes’ men already this term.

St Mirren defeated Aberdeen at home back in August thanks to Ilkay Durmus’ winner.

And in the Granite City they felt hard done by after a 2-1 loss – with Cosgrove on the scoresheet.

After narrowly losing to Rangers with a well-drilled defensive display in midweek, Flynn said: “We were hard to beat at Ibrox and limited Rangers to few chances. We frustrated the opposition.

“But against the Dons it will be completely different because we’re at home.

“We’ve had two tight games with them already – we beat them at home and were unfortunate not to take anything at Pittodrie.

“Hopefully we can get another good performance, along with some points on the board.

“Cosgrove is a good player and he’s on fire this season. We’ll have to make sure we keep him quiet if we’ve got any chance of producing a win.”

St Mirren gaffer Jim Goodwin will also need keeper Vaclav Hladky to be on form – and Flynn bel ieves he has the potential to be one of the best keepers around.

He said: “Vaclav has been exceptional. He played a massive part in keeping us up last season.

“His calmness helps, especially when you’re down at the bottom of the league and you need cool heads.”
