Mackay is going Loco for Brora

Steven Mackay last night hailed champions- elect Brora for a dazzling display against Inverurie.

The Sutherland men swept aside Locos and all but killed off their rivals’ title chances with an emphatic 4- 0 home win.

Jordan Macrae bagged a double while Greg Morrison and Andy Macrae also netted as Brora went 11 points clear at the summit, although faltering Fraserburg­h still have two games in hand.

Mackay had been critical of his team’s performanc­e the previous week in beating Deveronval­e 4-2 but said: “This was a real ly impressive performanc­e, not just with the goals but with the way we played throughout.

“Locos were coming off a great result the week before so I stressed the importance of starting well.

“We got the early goal and kicked on with Jordan getting a double. We pressed them and looked a threat all over the park.”

Fraserburg­h let slip a precious two points after being held to a 2-2 draw at lowly Huntly.

The Christie Park side twice led through Kai Ross and Nathan Peres but the Broch hit back on both occasions with goals from Willie West and Gary Harris.

On-loan Elgin defender Darryl McHardy’s late finish gave Rothes a 3-2 home win over Strathspey.

Formartine kept up their good form with a 4-1 home win over Lossiemout­h with Scott Lisle, Andy Greig, Graeme Rodger and Jonathon Crawford netting.
