ONE SLIP AND WE’RE DON

Gerrard: We need to get spark back quickly

- Scott McDermott

Steven Gerrard is refusing to give up on Rangers’ title challenge.

But the Ibrox boss admits his side CAN’T afford another slip up in their pursuit of Celtic.

The Light Blues dropped another two points yesterday when they were held to a goalless draw by Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen at Ibrox.

That came hard on the heels of last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle and has left Gerrard’s men four points adrift of the champions, who

are away to Brian Rice’s Hamilton this lunchtime, at the top of the table.

Gerrard admits his side have been missing a vital spark – and urged his under-performing players to rediscover it quickly before it is too late.

And the Gers gaffer insists that with title rivals Celtic opening up a gap, the last two Old Firm games of the season will now be critical.

Gerrard said: “We’re missing a spark right now in the final third.

“Not just today, but in the four games since we came back in January.

“It’s vital that we find that quickly because as it stands we’re four points off, two draws away from Celtic. We need to try and get back to the level we were at before the break.

“That’s key, that’s the most important thing.”

Gerrard is confident his players, including new boys Ianis Hagi and Flo Kamberi, can turn things around and pile the pressure on Celtic again.

He added: “We need to keep going because there will be more twists and turns in the title race.

“So we keep going, we keep pushing.

“But I need the players to f ind that spark again. They’re capable of it.

“Can we afford any more slip ups? If you look at Celtic’s form, probably not.

“But I’ve been around the game long enough to know there will be more twists and turns – and remember, there are still six points to play for in Old Firm games.”
