Two men were killed in a horror crash after their car hit a tree.

The driver, 39, and 36-year-old passenger were killed on impact.

The accident happened just before midnight on Friday, when the Black Ford S-Max crashed on the B970 at Inverdruie, near Aviemore, in the Highlands. The road, next the Rothiemurchus estate visitor centre, was closed for more than eight hours to allow police to investigate.

It is believed the driver may have lost control of the car. No other vehicles were involved.

Sergeant Alasdair Mackay, said: “Our thoughts are with the families of the men involved and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“The road has a number of residential houses and businesses nearby and I would ask anyone who may have seen anything to get in contact with police.”

Lobban added: “I’m led to believe the two men are not local.

“This section of road is fairly safe and does not have a history of accidents.

“It’s very tragic to lose two lives in Aviemore at any time and it must be horrendous for their family and friends.”
