The Broch can’t Brora Mac’s men

Steven Mackay praised Brora Rangers for cranking up the pressure on title challengers Fraserburgh with a gale-battered goals fest.

Jordan MacRae claimed his first Brora hat-trick, taking his season’s tally past the quarter century mark, in a 5-1 triumph away to Strathspey Thistle.

Bjorn Wagenaar and Martin MacLean also struck for the Sutherland men, although Scott Morrison put a minor dampener on the day with a late reply.

But Mackay was more than happy as his team climbed 14 points above idle Fraserburgh, who have three games in hand.

He said: “The conditions were really challenging in howling winds and a really bobbly pitch, but the boys stood up to it.

“It was a really professional, pleasing performance. To go 14 points clear of Fraserburgh is pleasing to see.”

Inverurie Locos refused to let ground slip on Brora as they beat visiting Deveronvale 3-1.

Greg Mitchell and Mark Souter had Locos on their way but Scott Dunn caused some home fan flutters by hitting back for Vale with four minutes left. Chris Angus wrapped up the points two minutes later.

A Cohen Ramsay own goal after only 11 minutes sent Nairn County on their way to a heavy 6- 0 drubbing by Paul Lawson’s Formartine United.

Graham Rodger and Conor Gethins added to Nairn’s woes with strikes before the break, while second half finishes from John Crawford, Scott Lisle and Jordan Leyden made it a miserable afternoon for the hosts.

Gregg Main grabbed the decisive goal for Rothes in a 3-2 victory away to Keith, while Alan Kerr sealed a morale-boosting 4-3 win for Clach at Lossiemouth.
