Win won’t stop Caley from losing

-

Inverness CT v Rangers Colts Today, 4.10pm

John Robertson revealed that Caley Thistle are on a loser today – even if they beat a young Rangers side to reach the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup final.

The Caley chief is looking to guide his side past the Ibrox kids and towards claiming the trophy for the second time in three seasons.

But he admits success will come at a cost because policing charges for the game will be so high.

The former Hearts striker said: “We’ll likely lose money due to the fact police are treating this as a game against Rangers, rather than as a game against Rangers’ Colts.

“Our police and security bill will be rather substantial so I can’t see the club making any money at all.

“We’ll lose money – and that’s just the way it is.”

Robertson has treated the competition with respect but feels others have not. He also questioned allowing teams from England, Wales and Northern Ireland to play as he called for a revamp.

Robbo, who could welcome back Aaron Dorans and Lewis Toshney today, said: “It’s become a difficult competition. You’ve got the Colts teams and the cross-border teams and this year I’m not so sure they’ve taken the cup seriously.

“The cross-border idea, for me, has probably run its course.

“I think that we have to look at revamping the tournament as I don’t think the cross-border teams are taking it seriously anymore and it’s a big financial burden for clubs to go to those grounds as well.

“But we’ve just got our heads down and played each round as it comes and we’ll do the same this time.

“We’ve got here – and now we want to get to the final.

“We’ve prepared properly and are looking forward to what will be a very unusual challenge.”
