Broony is Dane buster

-

Erik Sviatchenko will have mixed emotions when Celtic take on Danish cracks Copenhagen.

But his loyalty to the Hoops can’t be shaken and he has backed Scott Brown to steer them to success.

The Dane spent two seasons at Parkhead and admired Broony as an inspirational captain.

He reckons they will need his leadership in Copenhagen on Thursday in the first leg of their last-32 Europa League tie.

Sviatchenko’s current side Midtjylland are in a title fight with their rivals in the Danish Superliga.

He predicts it will be a tough task for Celtic to win at the Parken Stadium but is rooting for Broony & Co.

The defender, who left the Hoops in 2018 to return to his first club, said: “Copenhagen will be a tough team. They are our title rivals and it is close – there’s just four points at the top between us.

“But I’ve been watching Celtic and their response since the Old Firm defeat has been excellent. The way they are playing will give them a lot of confidence.

“There is determination and desire about the team and that comes from the culture at the club.

“Everyone knows how important it is to win and Broony is a natural leader in that respect.

“He is the type of player who inspires everyone to be better, especially when they are up against it.”

Sviatchenko admits he would usually be rooting for Copenhagen but said: “I have mixed feelings. I am proud of my country.

“But I am a Celtic fan and loved my time with the club. I’d love to see them progress and who knows how far they could go?

“So it’s strange. I will watch it and I’ll probably want Celtic to win.”
