Forster goal relief for gaffer

-

James McPake feared Dundee would never get the breakthrough they deserved.

But Jordon Forster’s first goal of the season lifted the Dark Blues up to third place.

And boss McPake admitted his side passed a crucial test at windswept Palmerston.

He said: “We deserved the points. This has been a tough venue for us so I’m delighted.

“We had to be patient and it did look like it was going to slip by – but we got our reward in the end.

“At half-time we said it was a test of character. We were trying to get into the mindset that whatever happened, we

were going to get that victory.”

It’s now back-to-back wins for Dundee who are level on points with second- placed Inverness in the play-off race.

Queens were f i rst to threaten through Deimantas Petravicius, whose shot was saved by keeper Conor Hazard, but Dundee took control.

A Graham Dorrans lob on the half- hour dropped just over the bar then Andrew Nelson headed wide. Next, home keeper Ross Stewart saved Queens with a brilliant block from a Forster header after the restart.

Hitman Kane Hemmings saw a low shot whistle past Stewart’s left-hand post.

But Dundee’s pressure paid off with a goal in 72 minutes.

Christophe Berra’s header was parried by Stewart but Forster was quickest to react and fire home.

Struggling Queens have now lost five of their last six games and boss Al lan Johnston said: “It’s important that we start picking up results quickly.”
