Rice: No point in a draw

- Craig Swan

Brian Rice admitted he was left frustrated at the loss of two priceless points in the survival fight.

The Hamilton manager was back in the technical area having completed his touchline ban and went through the emotions as his team failed to grab success against 10-men Motherwell.

Rice’s troops had plenty of the ball but openings were spurned by Marios Ogkmpoe, David Moyo and David Templeton during the stalemate that leaves them just two clear of bottom dogs Hearts.

The Accies boss said: “It’s two points dropped. We were the better team overall, even at 11 v 11.

“At 11 v 10 we had loads of possession, got in good areas, but the quality wasn’t there with the final ball. Especially from wide areas our crossing was pretty poor.

“In saying th at , Templeton had five or six shots at goal and normally would score at least one of them, so I am frustrated with that as we tried to work their goalie.

“We did enough to win the game.”

Although annoyed at the draw, Rice was full of praise for the attitude of his troops in tough circumstances.

He said: “We are missing more than a couple of experienced strikers. We are decimated right now.

“That ’s all I’ve got available at the club.

“Scott McMann called off ill this morning, four attacking players out.

“We did everything we could with what we have available. They gave it everything.”

Rice, meanwhile, was delighted to be back in the thick of the action on the touchline. He said: “Of course I was pleased to be back in the dugout.”
