Dogfight looms to succeed Unite Len

-

Union Unite has been forced to deny rumours its general secretary Len McCluskey is poised to stand down.

It comes after it emerged that Sharon Graham, a Unite executive officer, is preparing a bid to be the union’s first female leader.

Amid rumblings that executive stalwarts Howard Beckett and Steve Turner are set for a two-horse race, she told members she is planning to end the union’s “jobs for the boys” culture.

Unite has been dogged by its close ties to Jeremy Corbyn’s fai led Labour leadership. Graham said she’d run as an independent left candidate.

A Unite spokesman said there was no truth in rumours McCluskey was planning to stand down.
