Beckham faces Brit of fashion backlash

-

David Beckham is taking flak because clothes from a “British Heritage” range he is involved with are made overseas.

The former footballer, 44, was brought in to be the face of, and help design clothes for, Kent & Curwen.

Becks signed a five-year global licensing agreement with the brand in 2015 and has modelled a string of its outf its, including one inspired by TV gangster drama Peaky Blinders.

The Brit ish Heritage menswear range has jumpers costing up to £350, sweat tops at £ 165 and T-shirts for £75.

On its website, Kent & Curwen boasts of links to royalty. But buyers have taken to social media to question just how British the brand is after labels revealed some of the gear is made in China and Turkey.

Craig Savage posted: “Bought a piece and was really disappointed to find ‘ Made in China’ label. Gotta love a good old British carbon footprint.”

Ian Goguel added: “Just checked my gear – made in Turkey – disappointment isn’t the word.”

Another buyer asked: “So is any of this actual ly made in England? I can’t see what English heritage there is here.”

The company wa s established in 1926 by Eric Kent and Dorothy Curwen and has a flagship store in London’s Covent Garden.

Latest accounts show parent firm Trinity Brands racked up £18million in debt over three years.
