then the Palace got in touch asking me to perform for the Queen’s 90th birthday.”

Darcy, who also appeared on America’s Got Talent The Champions, added: “It was insane. I was at Windsor Castle with 80 members of the Royal Family in this ballroom 10ft away from me. A forever memory.

“I did my bird act, which I’ve been working on since I was 12. I was trying not to look directly at the Queen in case I got thrown off. I was relieved when none of the doves laid an egg in her lap. Darcy got into magic by accident when he was eight years old. He said: “My dad was joking around with a deck of cards. He told me to pick a card and put it back. He picked out my card and I was blown away. He would not tell me how it worked for a month, no matter how hard I begged. I was tortured by it and then finally I learned it was a total accident, a one-in-52 chance. But by then I was intrigued and became addicted to magic.

“I found out there was a magic library and I would borrow VHS tapes of my favourite tricks, which I would watch over and over until I had learned how to do it.

“Most kids learn a little trick here and there when they are young and then grow out of it but I never did and, by 11, I was performing at kids’ parties.”
