Darcy got into magic by accident when he was eight years old. He said: “My dad was joking around with a deck of cards. He told me to pick a card and put it back. He picked out my card and I was blown away. He would not tell me how it worked for a month, no matter how hard I begged. I was tortured by it and then finally I learned it was a total accident, a one-in-52 chance. But by then I was intrigued and became addicted to magic.
“I found out there was a magic library and I would borrow VHS tapes of my favourite tricks, which I would watch over and over until I had learned how to do it.
“Most kids learn a little trick here and there when they are young and then grow out of it but I never did and, by 11, I was performing at kids’ parties.”
