-

four-wheel drive SUV that sits above the Qashqai.

It’s spacious inside and rugged outside, with lovely finishing touches such as the 19in alloys, the black honeycomb grille and satin roof rails.

In the Tekna trim, it comes with leather seats and an immense amount of room in the second row – easily enough to sit three adults.

The boot is huge too, with an ample area for all kinds of sports equipment, prams or shopping.

If you put up the final two seats, you cut down on that space of course but, as long as you can move those seats, you alwaysy have the option. And you can raise just one if you want, giving you the bbest of both worlds.

The Th infotainment system is housed on ththe centre console on a 5in colour touchscreentouc and includes sat nav, DAB radio as well as AM and FM, a CD system, Bluetooth and both an aux socket and a USB port.

For F busy parents with a host of kids kid on board, there is also remote audio aud control.

What W makes this particular car stand out is the engine. The

X-Trail comes with different powertrains – petrol and diesel f ront- wheel drives, automatics and manuals, and then this one – the 1.7- litre diesel six- speed manual with the option of putting it into four- wheel drive and even locking down that four-wheel drive.

For families living in the country, it offers so many ways of getting about, even in the worst of weathers.

And, of course, safety has not been skirted either, with Nissan’s Safety Shield tech on board offering features such as blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert.

The Smart Vision Pack, which comes as standard too, gives you traffic signal recognition, lane departure warning and forward emergency braking with pedestrian recognition.

There’s automatic headlights, high beam assist and rain- sensing wipers. In fact, there is just so much gear on this car, you’ll have to get the kids to explain it all to you.

What is obvious, though, is that when it comes to families, Nissan has ticked all the boxes in this big and roomy X-Trail.
