Josh will be the crowning glory

- Michael Gannon

Ben Davison will be 5000 miles away in Las Vegas when Josh Taylor goes for glory in Glasgow.

But the coach insists he’ll be by his new charge’s side for some epics to come – including a crack at the undisputed crown.

Davison was Tyson Fury’s man through the comeback years right up until they parted eight weeks before a rematch with Deontay Wilder.

There were no hard feelings and he still had Billy Joe Saunders to look after, who has landed a crack at pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez.

It just so happens to be on May 2 – the same night Taylor will defend his IBF and WBA titles against Amin Khongsong.

Davison will do the hard yards with the pair in Manchester then go to the US as agreed at the outset, leaving Taylor with long-term mentor Terry McCormack.

Khongsong is first but Jose Ramirez loomsforundisputed status as Davison said: “You cannot see the ceiling for his potential. The Ramirez fight to unify the division is a good fight for him stylistically.

“Ramirez is a good fighter. Jose Zepeda gave Ramirez a tough fight. I have been in the gym with Zepeda and he is a phenomenal box fighter.

“It was a cracking fight but I believe Josh is better than Zepeda. And that is just one of the reasons that gives me confidence Josh wi l l do a good number on Ramirez.”

Davison knows Taylor won’t stop there.

He said: “Ricky Hatton was a monster at light welterweight but not quite as effective at welterweight. Josh has the frame but would have to add to that frame to be as effective at that weight.

“You are up against bigger men so it comes down to the IQ as well.

“Josh has been able to physically dominate his opponents. But at welterweight he will have to be able to nullify them a little better and know when to nullify them and when to use his

physicality.”
