CHANCELLOR TOLD TO HONOUR ELECTION PLEDGES
Scotland’s Finance Secretary has told the Chancellor he must keep promises the Conservatives made during the election.
Due to a delay in the UK Budget, the Scottish Government had to push back its announcement.
Eventually, the Scottish Budget went ahead using a mix of projections and pledges in the Tory general election manifesto and it was passed by MSPs in Holyrood on Thursday. It followed a deal between the Scottish Greens and the SNP.
In a letter to Rishi Sunak ahead of the UK Budget on Wednesday, Kate Forbes outlined the Scottish Government’s position.
She said: “It is essential that the UK Budget at the very least delivers on the funding commitments made in respect of the Scottish Budget in the Conservative Party manifesto for the December 2019 general election.”
Forbes went on to say if the promises are not met, the Scottish Government “will be clear where the responsibility lies”.
A Treasury spokeswoman said: “This Budget will deliver on the promises made to the British people, and will level up opportunities across all regions and nations of the UK.”
